BLATRIMONY: Are Black Relationships Fact or Fiction?

On March 3, the BP community will team up the Imani Black Students’ Association at University of Toronto Scarborough to discuss the realities of Black love. In the wake of all the media propaganda surrounding the relationship between black men and women, we wonder, are black relationships fact or fiction?

We are asking these questions:

• How should the concept of Blatrimony (that is, “Black matrimony”) be defined?

• Is there a separate set of ideals that compromise black relationships vs. everyone else? (i.e., is it okay for your man to sleep around, as long as "he knows where home is"?)

• Can a positive Black union really exist outside of “Love Jones" and other Hollywood fairy tales? (and if so – where are they, what do they look like, and why aren’t you in one?!)

Finally, when it's all said and done:

• Are Black relationships fact or fiction?
